ZFE

French Low-Emission Zone requiring a Crit'Air sticker. Around 43 agglomerations formally have a ZFE in 2026 (up from 25 active on 1 January 2025) — but only about ten enforce restrictions that are actually ticketable. <b>A ZFE on the map is not the same as a ZFE that stops you</b>: check the specific city, not the national count. Vehicles registered before January 1997 are unclassifiable and excluded from every scheme.

Still in force in 2026: Parliament voted to abolish ZFE, but the Conseil constitutionnel struck that article down on 21 May 2026 (decision n° 2026-903 DC) as unrelated to the bill it was attached to. The ZFE framework and the Crit'Air sticker are unchanged.
