EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report)

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a formal inspection and report on the fixed 12V and 230V habitation electrical installation — sockets, RCDs, breakers, wiring — separate from the vehicle's own electrics (starter battery, alternator, lighting circuits) and separate from the routine electrical checks folded into an annual habitation check.

The NCC recommends an EICR every 3 years for NCC-badged UK motorhomes and caravans, which is a notably longer interval than the annual habitation check and one that many owners have never heard of. Because it specifically tests the fixed installation rather than just confirming appliances switch on, it can catch degrading wiring or connections that a standard habitation check would not necessarily flag. This is a UK/NCC-specific recommendation — always check what applies to a given vehicle's home market and manufacturer documentation.
