The Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS) is a tripartite UK scheme: the National Caravan Council (NCC), The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club jointly accredit workshops that carry out habitation checks to a shared code of practice. AWS publishes a directory of approved workshops and backs it with an independent dispute-resolution service (AWSIDRS) if a check goes wrong.

An AWS-approved workshop is a reasonable starting point for a habitation check specifically because the scheme sets a common standard across otherwise independent garages — it is not a guarantee that a given workshop is the cheapest or the closest, only that it has signed up to the code of practice. This is a UK-specific scheme: other European countries do not have a direct AWS equivalent, and a manufacturer's own dealer network may run its own habitation-check programme instead.
