Methodology
WLTP consumption figures are measured on a flat, unloaded test cycle. A loaded, roof-racked, hill-climbing campervan reliably uses more — this calculator applies that real-world gap as an adjustable factor rather than presenting the brochure figure as fact.
- Real-world consumption (kWh/100km) = WLTP/manufacturer consumption × (1 + load/elevation/weather uplift ÷ 100).
- The uplift (default 30%) reflects the documented gap between WLTP and real-world consumption for loaded electric vans and motorhomes — a rule of thumb attributed here, not a fixed constant; adjust it down for flat motorway cruising or up for mountains and winter.
- Real range (km) = usable battery (kWh) ÷ real-world consumption (kWh/100km) × 100.
- Charging cost accounts for charging losses (default 10%, a typical AC/DC charging efficiency loss): energy drawn from the grid = usable battery ÷ (1 − losses ÷ 100), then × price per kWh.
This calculator gives a planning estimate, not a guaranteed range or bill. Real consumption depends heavily on speed, temperature, tyre pressure, payload and terrain, and electricity prices vary widely by supplier, tariff and charging network. Confirm current pricing with your charging network and treat the range figure as a starting margin, not a hard limit.
